NAAAP-KC's 5-month residency with ArtsKC is excited to announce Second Saturday Salon Nights! These monthly events will feature a diverse variety of music, theater, literary arts, open mics, and community chats featuring local Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans.

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, Vi Tran, Host/Curator, will host Luna Flare, Meyadi, and Mike & Kristina Ning.

 

About the Artists:
 

MEYADI
I am Meyadi, which means “echo” in my mother’s native tongue, Korean. I am a singer, violinist, pianist, composer, adventurer, writer, single mom, observer, and sensitive human. I create ethereal soundscapes layered with lyrical poetry, dreaming up an evocative and haunting electronic sunset. I offer my reflections and music to comfort, inspire, invite, and hold space.
 

LUNA FLARE
I am...a singer, drag performer, and cosplayer known as Luna Flare/Julian Rivera. I use my live vocals and humor to help share the unique experience I had growing up as a gay Filipino-American in the middle of the country. Through my craft, skill, and collaborative nature I hope to inspire others to realize that we have so much to offer inside of ourselves and that they have all the gifts to also share their stories.
 

MIKE & KRISTINA NING

MIKE: I am a Chinese octogenarian father and grandfather. Born in Shanghai, July 11 1940, year of the metal dragon, to descendants of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur during the second Sino-Japanese war. I am a self-taught jazz pianist, composer, vocalist and adjunct music professor. An Elder Statesman of Kansas City Jazz. Also a self-taught artist and calligrapher, 34 years professional lettering graphic artist for Hallmark Cards Inc., retired in 1999. I am a 58 year resident of Kansas City Missouri, who is inspired by creating personalized script sculptures in wire while listening to Bill Evans' music and old movies.
 

Join us at the ArtsKC gallery space in the Crossroads at 106 Southwest Blvd, KC, MO 64108. The salon program begins at 6:30 pm, but the gallery will open at 5:30 for mingling and to view the "I am" art show. We look forward to seeing you every Second Saturday through September 2022!
